Lifting As We Climb
Tuesday, May 20th, 2008“Every man is our brother, and every man’s burden is our own. Where poverty exists, all are poorer. Where hate flourishes, all are corrupted. Where injustice reins, all are unequal.”
Community Service has always been off utmost importance to me. As the Creative Commander in Chief (read: CEO) of Digitalvaliance, I wanted to make sure that running a company didn’t get in the way of performing community service. Being Nigerian, I’ve always been brought up with a community development mentality.
By this i mean, If I achieve success, then those around me, do too. If I am burdened, I would expect that those around me, feel the need to help unload my burden. That is my mentality and attitude towards life. Whether I like it or not, within reason, I am my brother’s keeper. If it is within my means to help someone (not necessarily just financially.. but also emotionally or simply by “just being there”), then I will.
Due to my limited time, it hasn’t been feasible for me to go to the Boys and Girls Club, or to participate in the Second Mile Project and other community service projects that I enjoy taking a part of. As busy as I may be, I am not one to make excuses for not being involved. This had me thinking as to what a “win-win” situation would be…
So with that in mind, I decided to give back in a different way. Since a website is often the first (if not only) interaction that many nonprofits might have with potential donors or people of interest, it is important to make a lasting impression. It is important for these nonprofits to show that even with their limited resources, they are able to establish a professional web presence, that conveys exactly what it is that they are doing.
Hence starting next month, Digitalvaliance will commit to donating 5 hours a month to the development of the website of a non-profit group. Application is simple. Email us with details as to why your non-profit should be chosen and what your nonprofit needs. If you are chosen, your non profit will be highlighted in our blog and development will begin quicker than you can say 501(c)(3)!

Mother’s Day
Tuesday, May 13th, 2008This post is a little late, but I figured, better late than never right?
Sunday was Mother’s Day (and my Birthday). This was an important day to me because my mother is by far the most important woman in my life (along with my 2 younger sisters). I made sure to call my mother as soon as I awoke. I wished her a Happy Mother’s Day and thanked her for her Birthday card that she sent me and hung up.
She called me back later, pretty disappointed that I didn’t make more of an effort to let her know how much I appreciated her. It’s pretty funny because the call took me by surprised. I’ve never been a super emotional person, but I felt bad that my mom would feel that way, seeing how most of my friends hear me talk about her repeatedly and talk about how great of a mother she is. I constantly boast about how she is the smartest person I know (she’s a very very smart doctor). I boast about her accomplishments, her cooking, her smile/jovial nature, her loving nature and just everything about her.
Being a good mother is the hardest job in the world. It’s one of those things that you never really appreciate as a child until you are older. When growing up, your parents might irritate you and you tend to take a lot of things they do/sacrifice for granted. I can’t say that I’ve ever taken anything my parents have done for granted, but I can see how it is easy to do so. If you have a mother that’s anything like mine then you have a wonder woman in your life and you must make an effort to let her know she is so.
So Mom if you ever read this, I love you and you are the main reason I am where I am today. I only hope that I can be half the parent that you are to me, because I do not know what I would do if you weren’t there to support me, inspire me and serve as my role model. I Love you Wonder Woman and Happy Mother’s Day!
